Facilities

General use equipment and specialized services are available to the research groups. These include resources for cell culture and manipulation (including cell microinjection and flow cytometry); instrumentation for advanced optical microscopy, including confocal microscopes outfitted for cell live imaging and implementation of high resolution optical nanotechnology procedures; instrumentation for advanced protein research (FPLC, HPLC, peptide synthesizer and sequencer) and proteomics (2D-gel analysis and MS/MS mass spectrometry); a 200 sq.m clean-room laboratory (class M5.5 or 10,000) for the manufacturing of recombinant pharmaceuticals; a BL3 safety laboratory for the handling of class 3 pathogens, currently devoted to HIV research; an AAV vector producing facility occupying a negative-pressurised room with air-locked security; a computer facility dedicated to genomics and biotechnology, allowing access to the most important biological databases, and supporting data retrieval and analysis.
