The organisation of yearly practical and theoretical courses, ranging from one to two weeks’ duration at the Trieste and New Delhi Components, and in Member States, continues to be a successful source of training for scientists worldwide. The contribution of internationally recognised scientists, and the variety of aspects regularly covered (from genome mapping techniques to the proliferation of normal and cancer cells, the risks and benefits of transgenic organisms, and biocomputing), continue to constitute a major asset for the ICGEB annual meetings and courses programme, the popularity of which is shown by the considerable number of requests for participation. Since 2005, the ICGEB Biosafety Outstation located in Ca' Tron (Treviso), Italy, has also hosted training courses on Biosafety and courses/workshops related to topics of Rice-bacteria interaction. In April 2008, Ca' Tron will also be the first Italian venue of the annual meeting of the International Burkholderia cepacia Working Group (IBCWG). In addition to training courses, the ICGEB has traditionally hosted key international events. During 2007 the ICGEB has organised the first meeting of the EMBO Conference Series "pre mRNA processing and disease" and for the second time, has successfully hosted the Meeting on "DNA Tumour Virus". Meetings undertaken in previous years are available for consultation:
